What a picturesque group of dwarves on the square in front of the entrance to the Puppet Theatre! This theatrical troupe of are acting in the play “All creatures Great and Small.” In the middle of the fountain, on top of a dwarf willow sits Wierzbnik, the narrator of the play. The dwarf leans over the fountain and tells about the seafaring expeditions of the dwarfs to the end of the world and beyond. The Actor concentrates and delivers a monologue calling for the protection of the little peoples. The Gardener wanders away for a moment to give some shrubs a reinvigorating bath from his watering can, and Parasolnik, in hopes of marrying an enchanted princess, tries to steal a kiss from a frog. The dwarf feeding birds tosses bread crumbs to give their wings power to take flight, and the gnome collecting water is inspired by “Singing in the Rain” and celebrates the cool water’s life-giving power.
